What do we as followers of Christ do when we are invited to a Gay Marriage? What if the marriage involves a close family member? This is an issue I have been struggling with recently. Struggling more then I thought I would. After examining scripture, my heart and prayer I had the difficult answer. A friend later sent me this short conversation from last year that helped confirm what I knew had to happen. I believe it will be an encouragement to you as well.
I have been going through 1 Samuel the last few weeks and the Lord has impressed something to my heart and since it seems relevant to everyone I am going to share it.
And he said to his men, “The Lord forbid that I should do this thing to my master, the Lord’s anointed, to stretch out my hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the Lord.” 1 Sam. 24:6
Out of context this verse seems easy to say “Amen” to but when you read the rest of the text it’s a bit harder to swallow.
At this point Saul (the Lord’s anointed) was king of Israel, pride and envy had full control over him. He was hunting David seeking to kill him despite the fact that David had proven himself a faithful servant time and again. Add to this that David had already been anointed to be king by Samuel (1Sam 16:13) and it gets hard to see why David was so loyal. The simple answer is that David trusted God. He understood two simple facts: Saul, by God’s decree, was the king of Israel and if God wanted that changed He would make it so. So it was by faith that David submitted himself, as much as he could, to Saul as unto the Lord. Read the remainder of this entry »
I came across this message given by Ken Graves of CC Bangor to a group of pastors and leaders. He makes some interesting points about how we have become overly casual in our communication with the Lord. I can’t say that I whole heartedly agree with him but the message is certainly thought provoking. Particularly so his comments on the worship songs of today.I would love to hear your comments. Please note you can share this with anyone but I would suggest avoid including those who are immature in the faith or are already on the legalistic side. Download MP3
| A friend sent me this quote from the late William Buckley. It is a profound reminder of the great love He has for us and our hearts natural reaction.
“We do not abandon reason, we merely recognize its limitations. We reason to the existence of God, it is revealed to us that His Son was also the incarnation, and that such was His love of us that He endured a torture excruciating in pain, and unique in aspect — the God of hosts, mutilated by His own creatures, whom He dies forgiving, loving. Can we do less? Yes, we do less, but we must try to do more, until we die.” - William F. Buckley, Nearer My God |

As many of you know, as a general practice, I avoid domestic news outlets. Instead I rely on various European sources not the least of which is BBC World. There are two benefits to this practice. First I easily avoid all the silliness that the American networks label and report as news but is in fact merely pop culture. The second is a fresh perspective. People outside the U.S. do see things differently. Even in the most American like country of Great Britain their take on world and national events are often surprising and even insightful. Because of there distance from it they can sometimes see the forest where we only see the trees.Case in point, and my point for this post, is a recent report on “the Change in American Religion”. It’s a five minute segment I found very chilling. Rev 3:15-16. Please let me know what you think. Download MP3
